Frequently Asked Questions
Below we have tried to answer some frequently asked questions. We hope you will contact us for more information.

Q: What are your company's hiring requirements?
A: You must possess a Class A license, have one year tractor-trailer experience, no more than one moving violation in three years, no more than one preventable accident in five years, no DWI/DUI in the last five years, and you must live in a hiring area.

Q: Do I live in an eligible hiring area?
A: Hiring area differs by location and operation. If you live in a 50 mile radius of one of our facilities then you are golden. Other things are considered like if you live along a major traffic lane, or near a large customer. The object is to get you home each week, cost effectively.

Q: How much home time do I get?
A: Again, this depends on the location and operation. We guarantee 48 consecutive hours at home each week and these hours usually fall on the weekend. We do have some drivers that, by choice, stay out for two weeks, then take 4 days off.

Q: If I am out on the road and something happens at home, what is your company policy for getting me back?
A: Family and emergencies are taken very seriously by Gypsum Express. Our Fleet Managers work very well with the drivers to get them home ASAP. We have even been known to fly or bobtail someone home.

Q: What kind of benefits and perks do you offer?
A: We offer several health and dental options, 401K, ST/LT disability insurance, life insurance, paid holidays, paid vacation, safety bonus, direct deposit.

Q: What kind of out-of-pocket expenses will I incur?
A: You should only need money for your own needs. We use EZ Pass in all our facilities and it covers our toll roads and bridges. You also don't pay for fuel. We ensure our drivers have the tools to cover toll and fuel costs.

Q: How do you pay?
A: We pay a combination of mileage and accessorials. Mileage compensation is based on years of experience and longevity with previous employers is recognized. Our accessorials are all the little "extras" you get paid for. These usually average 1-4 cpm more you are actually taking home in your check.

Q: How big is your company and what are the chances it will be around in 10 years.
A: We currently are operating with six locations in the East and Midwest, over 500 drivers, and 150 staff and mechanics. We have three shops, one in each region. The company was founded in 1985 and is privately owned. The owner, John Wight, is very active and drives a lot to keep himself involved with the customers and drivers. He has a smart business sense, which has allowed him to build this company from his pick up truck to a fleet over 500 tractors.
